A-Ting once made a pre-soaked batch for buyers who preferred a much more forceful aroma. He chose not to make that his regular product. His standard oil keeps the raw material out of the water and does not pre-soak it before distillation.

Insect activity leaves channels and wounds in the living wood. Over time, the tree responds and resin gathers around these natural traces, giving each piece its own form and pattern.
02 · AQUILARIA SINENSIS
沉香成熟了的白木香
Aquilaria sinensis is the living bearer of agarwood. Injury, insect activity and time act upon the tree; its natural response forms resin within the wood, turning the living material into agarwood.

For years, Beiliu had no widely recognized regional brand, shared standard or pricing power. Its agarwood remained largely unknown beyond the source network—and genuine local material could enter the trade under the names of better-known origins.
As prices in Hainan and Dianbai have risen and naturally formed material has become harder to find, industry buyers have increasingly come to Beiliu during the past two years in search of naturally formed insect-bored agarwood.
LOCAL MARKET SIGNALAccording to first-hand purchasing accounts within the Beiliu network, the raw procurement price of insect-bored material rose to about three times its earlier level from last year to this year.
